When you talk about satellite television providers in US, you will straight away think of DIRECTV and DISH Network. Why? The reason being each of them having a subscriber base of over 10 million.

Something About the Companies:

DIRECTV was established by Hughes Electronics in 1994, has the highest subscriber base of over 15 million and ranks number 2 in terms of customer satisfaction as compared to other satellite television providers.

DISH Network was established by EchoStar in 1996, has a subscriber base of more than 12 million and ranks number 1 for customer satisfaction.

So which one do you go for? That is the question we are trying to answer here. Well, it depends on your choice of programs and favorite channels but before we do that, let's look at a summary of what both of them are offering:

DIRECTV offers both English and Spanish packages. It has 7 English packages at the time of writing this article ranging from around $30 (45+ channels) to $80 (265+ channels).

DISH Network offers about 375 satellite channels and 5 program packages. The prices are slightly lower than that of DIRECTV if you consider it in terms of number of channels offered.

In terms of pricing, they are pretty much on par. However, you should choose based on the kind of channels they offer, particularly those that are offered only by one but not the other. For example, certain sports channels are only offered by DIRECTV due to exclusive rights that were given to them in the past. In the mean time, DISH Network came out with its own sports selection that includes the NHL Center Ice package and the NBA League Pass.

Both satellite television providers offer free dish equipment with a package commitment period but you will have to pay for HDTV receivers.

In conclusion, choose from the providers one that suits your television needs as price for both providers are as competitive as they can be at the moment.
