There are many ways to set up satellite tv for pc. You can buy a PCTV card and install it into your PC to start watching live tv channels through the dial up line or broadband network connection. The other method is by downloading software that will stream live tv feeds straight to your PC or laptop. I recommend the second option and I will tell you why.

A PCTV card typically comes in the form of a PCI/PCI express card or an external USB device. Typically, they cost at least $100 per piece. I, for one, do not really like the hassle of opening up my pc in order to install a hardware card and having another USB device sitting on my already messy desk.

On the other hand, there are software in the market that enables your pc to stream live satellite tv feeds. The good thing about these software is that they are easy to install, does not involve any hardware and typically only involves a one-time fee. Yes, you heard me right, a one-time fee. That means once you purchase the software, you have satellite tv for pc for as long as you like with no recurring fee. I don't know about you but a lot of cable tv/satellite tv providers in my country requires a monthly subscription fee for the service. Personally, I think the software is really a bargain.

Now that you know how to set up satellite tv for pc, how do you choose which software to go for? Here are some guidelines to help you make your decision:

  1. The service should only involve a one-time fee for the purchase of software as I mentioned.
  2. The number of channels offered. Some service providers offer more than 3000 channels world wide.
  3. Does the software support the operation system (Windows or Mac) your pc is running? Also make sure that it supports the version of operating system you have. For example, software that supports Windows Vista may or may not support Windows XP.
  4. A good satellite tv for pc software will cost no more than $60.

You will also need a broadband connection in order to allow the software to stream live satellite tv for pc. A dial up connection will work too but video performance will be affected.

Lastly, it is important to read about the software before making the purchase to make sure you know what you are getting.
