If you have always been watching satellite television using a dish, you must be wondering how to manage without it. You know that the dish is a necessary element, which acts like an antenna receiving and transmitting signals to and from satellites – that’s how satellite TV works. Satellite TV set up is quite a daunting task for a common person who is not too techie. The satellite dish has to be erected outdoor, then a low-noise block converter (LNB) has to be fixed on the dish. After that, you will need a receiver or decoder to complete the installation. With a lot of complicated details that go into the dish’s installation, you will be excited to know that now you can watch satellite TV on PC – and there is no need in the satellite dish any more!

In order to be able to watch satellite TV on PC you need to ensure that your computer meets some basic requirements:

1. PCTV Card

This card is necessary to allow your computer to receive and interpret satellite TV channel feed with the monitor functioning as a TV screen. PCTV card can be installed either internally or externally. The internal installation involves the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) slot which attaches peripheral devices like the PCTV card to the motherboard of your computer. External PCTV cards are attached to your PC via the USB port; so if you choose this method, make sure you have a USB port. Alternatively, you may use an adapter.

2. Internet Connection

Either your PCTV card is installed internally or externally, another requirement is to establish a proper internet connection. Make sure you have a broadband connection at the minimum speed of 512Kbytes. This factor is really crucial for the quality of your satellite TV. Higher connection speeds will provide clearer picture along with faster and smoother transmission.

3. Computer Configuration

A minimum RAM speed has to be no less than 128Mbytes and the CPU must be at least a Pentium 3. These conditions shouldn’t bother you, though – today, nearly every computer meets these standards.

4. Optional Computer Peripherals

There are ways to enhance the quality of picture and sound of your satellite TV using other optional computer components. One easy thing to do would be installing a top-grade graphics card and sound card.
